There are a number of Indians who live across the globe but still yearn for a connection with their home country. There are many ways to remain connected in today's ever shrinking cosmopolitan world but what better way than to have access to Live TV featuring Indian News channels, Entertainment channels, Music channels and Sports channels. Today, one can still follow their cricketing passion by logging on to youtube for their share ofIPL cricket frenzy. But there is literally no access to Live Online TV from India apart from canned episodes which people may find on video sharing sites like youtube. It may be all stale stuff but still better than nothing. But now all that has changed. You can now have the option of watching Live TV channels from India on your mobile. Yes Sir, you heard it right. On your mobile! And if you have a good 3G connection or a Wifi connection you can watch whole shows or movies without any buffering. Even resident Indians can use this app for following their favorite shows on the move. The app in limelight is Mimobitv from Apalya. It is available for iPhone as well as Android devices and can be downloaded free of cost from iTunes App Store or Android Marketplace respectively. It features multiple Indian channels including some popular ones like Sony, Star Plus, Star One, SAB TV, Aaj Tak, NDTV etc. All that for only $1 per month subscription. The live feed is actually deferred live, running a mere 1 minute behind the actual broadcast stream. Of course the app is not yet perfect. Expectedly all channels are not available, specially some big names like Zee TV, ESPNStar are missing. Overall the streaming works well but may sometimes stutter (but that could be more attributable to flaky internet access in India). The user reviews are mixed but for me it worked great on my iPhone 4. Again, maybe the culprit is the crawling internet connections here in India which do not lend favorably to streaming media. Despite this, Mimobitv still remains the best deal for Indians across the globe to get a feel of India they were missing. Well, at least I can look forward to a pleasant summer vacation by keeping my lovely wife glued to her favorite shows. After all, a happy wife is a happy life!
